The effects of dietary factors on the development of chronic diseases, especially CVD and cancer, but also obesity,
have been investigated in many experimental, clinical and epidemiological studies. The traditional analytical
approach in nutritional epidemiology has largely focused on individual nutrient- or food based analyses.
