Phenolic compounds or polyphenols are a complex group of phytochemicals possessing several hydroxyl groups on
aromatic rings. They are widely distributed throughout the plant kingdom and thus form an integral part of the
human diet. Several thousand molecules belong to this group and several hundreds can be found in edible plants.
