Increasing evidence indicates that sulfur amino acids, methionine and cysteine, are implicated in numerous biological functions and diseases, aside from their role in protein synthesis. The introduction of stable-isotope tracer methodology has enabled the measurement of sulfur amino acid metabolism in vivo in human subjects, including adults and infants.
